Name: Consideration of a Resolution accepting a gift of $3,000 from Clyde Sturges to pay for expenses relating to restoring operation of a security gate system at
the Norton Court garage.

Description: According to City Policy C89-41, all donations and gifts to the City with a value in excess of $1,000 must be approved and accepted by Resolution of
the City Council.

Mr. Clyde Sturges has donated $3,000 to assist the City of Carmel-by-the-Sea reestablish a security gate system for the Norton Court garage. The gift is restricted for use in repairing the existing roll down door and barrier gate arm system located at the Dolores Street vehicle entrance to the Norton Court garage. Two pedestrian doors in the garage will also be upgraded with electronic locks. Tenants, or their designee, will enter the garage by using an access card to open the roll-down door and/or pedestrian doors. The total cost for this project is estimated at $4,900. Mr. Sturges has donated $3,000 and the City of Carmel-by-the-Sea will pay the remaining balance of $1,900. City funds for this project are approved and available in account #01-70050.

Staff Recommendation: Approve the Resolution accepting the $3,000 gift from Clyde Sturges and expend the donated funds to pay for the Norton Court garage security gates.

Important Considerations: City Policy C89-41 requires City Council approval for all
donations and gifts to the City with a value in excess of $1,000.

RESOLUTION NO. 2008-

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARMEL-BY-THE-SEA ACCEPTING A GIFT OF $3,000 FROM MR. CLYDE STURGES TO PAY FOR EXPENSES RELATING TO RESTORING OPERATION OF A SECURITY GATE SYSTEM AT THE NORTON COURT GARAGE

WHEREAS, the City of Carmel-by-the-Sea intends to refurbish the existing security gate system at the Norton Court garage located at the northwest corner of Dolores Street and 5th Avenue; and

WHEREAS, the costs for completing this project are estimated at $4,900; and

WHEREAS, this gift is restricted to pay partial costs associated with reestablishing the security gates that control vehicle access, and add electronically-controlled locks to the pedestrian doors at the Norton Court garage;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARMEL-BY-THE-SEA DOES:

1. Accept with gratitude the $3,000 donation from Clyde Sturges, and deposit said funds in account 01-46801-0004.

2. Direct the Mayor to send a letter of thanks and appreciation to Mr. Sturges for his generous donation.

3. Direct the City Clerk to inscribe Clyde Sturges and the nature of his gift on the scroll of Gifts to the City located in the lobby of City Hall.
