Name: Consideration of a Resolution authorizing the use of one of the City’s free use days of the Sunset Theater on April 19, 2008 for the Carmel Public Library Foundation’s first annual Family Literary Festival fundraising event.

Description: The Carmel Public Library Foundation is requesting use of the Sunset Theater, including all rooms on the upper and lower levels, classrooms, hallways, patio and kitchen for their Family Literary Festival fundraising event on April 19, 2008.

Staff Recommendation: Staff recommends adopting the Resolution allocating one of the City’s free days, on the basis that the Carmel Public Library Foundation’s fundraising event will benefit Harrison Memorial Library.

Important Considerations: The Carmel Public Library Foundation is requesting the use of Sunset Center on April 19, 2008, for their first annual Family Literary Festival fundraising event. Allowing the free use of Sunset Center will allow the Carmel Public Library Foundation to minimize costs, thereby maximizing the amount raised to benefit Harrison Memorial Library.

RESOLUTION NO. 2008-
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARMEL-BY-THE-SEA AUTHORIZING THE USE OF ONE OF THE CITY’S FREE USE DAYS OF THE SUNSET THEATER ON APRIL 19, 2008 FOR THE CARMEL PUBLIC LIBRARY FOUNDATION’S FIRST ANNUAL FAMILY LITERARY FESTIVAL FUNDRAISING EVENT

WHEREAS, the agreement between the City and the Sunset Cultural Center, Inc. provides for five (5) days of use of the Sunset Theater at no cost to the City; and

WHEREAS, the Carmel Public Library Foundation is requesting use of the Sunset Theater, all rooms on the upper and lower levels, classrooms, hallways, patio and kitchen at no cost from the City for their fundraising event on April 19, 2008; and

WHEREAS, the Carmel Public Library Foundation’s Family Literary Festival fundraising event will benefit Harrison Memorial Library; and

WHEREAS, the proceeds from the fundraising event have a community benefit.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARMEL-BY-THE-SEA DOES:

1. Approve the use of Sunset Theater, all rooms on the upper and lower levels, classrooms, hallways, patio and kitchen on April 19, 2008 by the Carmel Public Library Foundation.
