of Trustees and the Carmel Public Library Foundation of the Foundation’s Maybeck Plaque Completion reception.

Description: The City Support Groups Policy C89-47 requires support groups to obtain
City Council approval to co-sponsor events, particularly those at which alcohol is served.

The Library Board of Trustees and Carmel Public Library Foundation request the City’s
co-sponsorship of the Maybeck Plaque Completion reception, to be held June 1, 2008 at
the Main Library building, and to authorize the City Administrator to close two parking stalls to public use for valet parking service during the event.

Overall Cost: No City funds or Grant funds are used.

Staff Recommendation: Adopt the Resolution.

Important Considerations: This event is being held to celebrate the completion of the
Foundation’s Maybeck Plaque fundraising program.

Decision Record: The City Council has approved co-sponsorship of Foundation events
since 1994.

RECOMMENDED MOTION
Approve City Council co-sponsorship of the Carmel Public Library Foundation’s Maybeck
Plaque Completion Reception event with the Carmel Public Library Foundation and the Harrison Memorial Library Board of Trustees.

BACKGROUND
Since 1994, the City Council has co-sponsored the Carmel Public Library Foundation’s donor events which are catered offering wine and hors d’oeuvres. Valet parking is provided using two public parking spaces.

The Foundation is hosting a special reception on June 1 at the Main Library to celebrate the completion of the Maybeck Plaque fundraising program, which began in 1993.

The Carmel Public Library Foundation will apply for a Daily License Application/ Authorization from the Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control.

FISCAL IMPACT
The Carmel Public Library Foundation covers all costs incurred for the event.

RESOLUTION NO. 2008-A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARMEL-BY-THE-SEA AUTHORIZING CO-SPONSORSHIP, WITH THE LIBRARY BOARD OF TRUSTEES AND CARMEL PUBLIC LIBRARY FOUNDATION, OF THE MAYBECK PLAQUE COMPLETION RECEPTION

WHEREAS, the City’s Support Groups Policy requires support groups to obtain City Council approval to co-sponsor events, particularly at which alcohol is served; and

WHEREAS, on February 27, 2008, the Library Board of Trustees and the Carmel Public
Library Foundation requested the City to co-sponsor the special reception celebrating the completion of the Donor Maybeck Plaque to be held June 1, 2008 at the Main Library Building; and

WHEREAS, valet parking is provided and two parking stalls are needed to provide this
service in a safe manner for the June 1 event:

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARMEL-BY-THE-SEA DOES:

1. Agree to cosponsor, with the Library Board of Trustees and Carmel Public Library
Foundation, the June 1 special reception event.

2. Authorize the City Administrator to notify the Harrison Memorial Library Board of
Trustees and Carmel Public Library Foundation of the Council’s concurrence to cosponsor the special reception event.

3. Authorize the City Administrator to officially notify the City’s insurance carrier of the co-sponsorship.

4. Authorize the City Administrator to close two parking stalls to public use at the corner of Ocean Avenue and Lincoln Street, during the special reception event June 1.
