Name: Consideration of a Resolution accepting a grant of $5,000 from the Monterey Peninsula Foundation Youth Fund for deposit to the Community Special Events Deposit Account

Description: On February 6, 2007, the City Council passed Resolution 2007-09 authorizing the submittal of a grant request to the Monterey Peninsula Foundation Youth Fund (formerly known as the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am Youth Fund). The grant request was for $10,000 to supplement the annual Community Services budget for the following four annual events that involve youth:
• Independence Day Celebration
• Great Sandcastle Contest
• City Birthday Party/Parade
• Holiday Tree Lighting.

In response to the grant application, the City received a $5,000 grant. City policy C99-04, as amended, requires City Council approval for acceptance of the grant proceeds. The grant proceeds will be deposited to the Community Special Events Deposit Account 50-24050-0684 to partially fund the four annual events noted above.

Overall Cost: City Funds: n/a
Grant Funds: $5,000

Staff Recommendation: Approve the Resolution accepting the grant of $5,000 from the
Monterey Peninsula Foundation Youth Fund for deposit to the Community Special Events deposit account.

Important Considerations: The Monterey Peninsula Foundation Youth Fund is a youth orientated fund. Grant proceeds are to be used for special programs and/or supplies for youth organizations. The grant proceeds will partially fund the four annual events that
involve youth in the community.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARMEL-BY-THE-SEA ACCEPTING A GRANT IN THE AMOUNT OF $5,000 FROM THE MONTEREY PENINSULA FOUNDATION YOUTH FUND FOR DEPOSIT TO THE COMMUNITY SPECIAL EVENTS DEPOSIT ACCOUNT

WHEREAS, Resolution 2007-09 dated February 6, 2007 authorized the submittal of a
grant request to the Monterey Peninsula Foundation Youth Fund for partial support of annual community events that involve youth; and

WHEREAS, the City received a grant from the Monterey Peninsula Foundation Youth
Fund in the amount of $5,000; and

WHEREAS, City Policy C99-04, as amended, requires City Council approval for
acceptance of grant proceeds.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARMEL-BY-THE-SEA DOES:

1. Accept with gratitude the grant proceeds in the amount of $5,000 from the
Monterey Peninsula Foundation Youth Fund.

2. Authorize the deposit of the $5,000 grant to the Community Special events deposit account 50-24050-0684.
