Name: Consideration of a Resolution authorizing the expenditure of $2,380.95 from the
Council’s Discretionary Account to fund the production of a Concours on the Avenue
map to promote the car event and local businesses.

Description: The City is sponsoring the Concours on the Avenue car event on August 11-12, 2008. During the event, stores throughout the business district will be encouraged to participate in a window display contest organized by the event organizer, the City’s marketing firm. In conjunction with the Concours window display contest, Anda- Burghardt has proposed a promotional map to feature the participating stores. The map also will include a schedule of events and entertainment and general information about the City of Carmel-by-the-Sea.

The estimated cost for the design and printing of the Concours on the Avenue map is
$2,380.95 (see attached Exhibit A). The City budgeted $20,000 in the Council’s
Discretionary account 01-60207 in the current fiscal year, so there are ample funds to support this project.

Overall Cost: City Funds: $2,380.95 from the Council’s Discretionary account 01-60207
Grant Funds: N/A

Staff Recommendation: Adopt the Resolution.

Important Considerations: The Concours on the Avenue car event draws many visitors and tourists to the City. The map proposed by the event organizer will help promote the City and local businesses during the event.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARMEL-BY-THE-SEA AUTHORIZING AN EXPENDITURE OF $2,380.95 FROM THE COUNCIL’S DISCRETIONARY ACCOUNT TO FUND THE PRODUCTION OF A CONCOURS ON THE AVENUE MAP PROMOTING THE CAR EVENT AND LOCAL BUSINESSES

WHEREAS, the City is sponsoring the Concours on the Avenue car event scheduled for
August 11 and 12, 2008; and

WHEREAS, advertising company Anda-Burghardt has proposed creating a map for the
Concours on the Avenue car event featuring local stores and pertinent event details; and

WHEREAS, the estimated cost for the design and production of the map is $2,380.95;
and

WHEREAS, there are sufficient funds in the fiscal year 2008-09 Council Discretionary
budget account 01-60207.

NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARMEL-BY-THE-SEA DOES:

1. Authorize the expenditure of $2,380.95 from the Council Discretionary account
01-60207 to Anda-Burghardt to fund the production of a Concours on the Avenue map.
