Name: Consideration of a Resolution authorizing payment of $7,000 to Peter Raimondi
of University of California-Santa Cruz to analyze and interpret biological data, as
required by the State Water Resources Control Board.

Description: In order for the City of Carmel-by-the-Sea to complete its exception
application to the California Ocean Plan Area of Special Biological Significance (ASBS) waster discharge prohibition, the State Water Resources Board (SWRCB) has required the City pay $7,000 in help fund a project to analyze and interpret biological data. This work will be conducted by UC-Santa Cruz professor Peter Raimondi. The project is expected to be finalized by December 2008. Upon funding this UCSC project and completion by Dr. Raimondi, the State Water Resources Control Board will consider the City’s application for an exemption to the ASBS waste discharge prohibition complete.

Grant Funds: N/A

Staff Recommendation: Adopt the resolution.

Important Considerations: Funding of this project is a required by the SWRCB to complete the application for an exception to the waste discharge prohibition.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF CARMEL-BY-THE-SEA AUTHORIZING PAYMENT OF $7,000 TO PETER RAIMONDI OF UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA-SANTA CRUZ TO ANALYZE AND INTERPRET BIOLOGICAL DATA, AS REQUIRED BY THE STATE WATER RESOURCES CONTROL BOARD

WHEREAS, the City was required to submit an application for an exception to the
California Ocean Plan Area of Special Biological Significance (ASBS) waste discharge
prohibition; and

WHEREAS, the State Water Resources Control Board has required the City to provide
funding assistance in the amount of $7,000 to Dr. Peter Raimondi of University of California- Santa Cruz, who will conduct a project to analyze and interpret biological data, in order for the application for an exception to be complete;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARMEL-BY-THE-SEA does hereby:

Authorize the City Administrator to make a payment in the amount of $7,000 to Dr. Peter Raimondi of the University of California-Santa Cruz to assist with the biological project.
