SPECIAL CITY COUNCIL MEETING
CITY OF CARMEL-BY-THE-SEA
July 1, 2008

I. CALL TO ORDER
The special meeting of the City Council of the City of Carmel-by-the-Sea, California, was held on the above date at the stated hour of 4:28 p.m. Mayor McCloud called the meeting to order.

II. ROLL CALL
PRESENT: Council Members Hazdovac, Rose, Sharp, Talmage & McCloud
STAFF PRESENT: Rich Guillen, City Administrator
Don Freeman, City Attorney
Heidi Burch, City Clerk
George Rawson, Public Safety Director

III. ORDERS OF COUNCIL
A. Provide policy direction regarding a proposed ordinance banning fires
within the City limits during fire season.

The item was continued to the conclusion of the regular Council meeting.

Mayor McCloud opened the meeting to public comment at 7:06 p.m.

Barbara Livingston addressed Council.

Mayor McCloud closed the meeting to public comment at 7:08 p.m.

Augie Beacham addressed Council regarding fire prevention measures and policies currently in place.

John Hanson, Building Official, reviewed some of the ordinances, building codes and fire codes addressing fires in the City.

Mayor McCloud opened the meeting to public comment at 7:32 p.m.

Barbara Livingston addressed Council.

Mayor McCloud closed the meeting to public comment at 7:33 p.m.

Council directed staff to review current ordinances regarding fires, and to examine whether the City has done, and is continuing to do, everything possible with respect to weed abatement in public places and enforcement of residential brush clearance. A staff report on these topics will be presented at a special City Council meeting on July 15, 2008.

IV. ADJOURNMENT
Mayor McCloud declared the meeting adjourned at 7:35 p.m.
