Name: Approve the appointment of Council Member Karen Sharp as the alternate board member to the Carmel Regional Fire Ambulance (CRFA) Joint Powers Authority.

Description: The Carmel Regional Fire Ambulance JPA administers the ambulance
service to the City. The Authority is comprised of three Board Members, one of which is a representative from the City of Carmel-by-the-Sea. The Authority
allows an alternate to the designated Board Member. Council Member Sharp has
agreed to be the alternate member and is an excellent selection based on her work experience as a registered nurse and medical director.

Staff Recommendation: Approve the appointment.

Important Considerations: In the rare instance that the designated representative is unable to attend a CRFA Board meeting, the alternate can sit in on the Board meeting and have the same voting powers as the designated Board Member. Designating an alternate to the Authority will ensure consistent representation at all CRFA Board meetings.

Decision Record: Former Council Member Gerard Rose was appointed by the City
Council at its May 2, 2000 meeting to serve as the City’s CRFA representative.
