October 26, 2011

I. CALL TO ORDER

The regular meeting of the Harrison Memorial Library Board of Trustees of the City of Carmel-by-the-Sea was held on the above date at 9:00 a.m. President MOSHER called the meeting to order.

II. ROLL CALL Board Members
PRESENT: COLLINS, MOSHER, MOZINGO, REIMERS, UNGARETTI
ABSENT: NONE
STAFF PRESENT: Janet Bombard, Library Director
Carolina Lopez, Library Office Assistant
III. Extraordinary Business

New Library Board Member Glen Mozingo was sworn in

IV. ANNOUNCEMENTS FROM LIBRARY BOARD & DIRECTOR:

Board President Mosher announced that the Halloween Parade would take place on October 29th. She welcomed new Board Member Glen Mozingo. President Mosher read a letter of appreciation that will be sent to former Board Member Bob Irvine.

Board Member COLLINS, moved to, approve the minutes for September 28, 2011, seconded by Board Member MOSHER and carried by the following roll call vote:

VII. ORDERS OF BUSINESS:

A. Receive Report from the Carmel Public Library Foundation Regarding CPLF Activities

Carmel Public Library Foundation Executive Director Amy Donohue expressed a warm welcome to Board Member Mozingo. The brochure from CPLF went out last week and has generated $18,000 in funds so far. The Annual Campaign will kick off the first week of November. Author Jane Smiley will be coming to the Library November 13th. Laura Schumaker’s program on Sept. 20th was a great success.

B. Accept Quarterly Distribution from the Carmel Public Library Foundation in the amount of $70,000.00

Board Member MOSHER moved to, Accept Quarterly Distribution from the Carmel Public Library Foundation in the amount of $70,000.00, seconded by Board Member REIMERS and carried by the following roll call vote:

AYES: COLLINS, MOSHER, MOZINGO, REIMERS, UNGARETTI

ABSENT: NONE
ABSTAIN: NONE

VIII. LIBRARIAN’S REPORT:

$23,000 was raised at the Annual Friends of the Library Book Sale and $19,000 will be coming to the Library. Weston photographs were returned and are waiting to be placed in their respective homes. The [i]cell Kiosk was set up and displayed to enthusiastic patrons. A Conditional Employment offer will be made to a prospective Local History Librarian sometime before the end of the month. The Library Director reviewed the September statistics. Taelen Thomas will appear in the Main Library to tell tales of Buck from the Jack London’s Call of the Wild on October 27th.

IX. TREASURERS REPORT:

Board Member MOSHER moved to, accept the September 30, 2011 Check Register, seconded by Board Member COLLINS and carried by the following roll call vote:

AYES: COLLINS, MOSHER, MOZINGO, REIMERS, UNGARETTI

X. ADJOURNMENT:

There being no further business to come before the Board, the President declared the meeting adjourned at 9:39 a.m. The next regular meeting is scheduled for November 23, 2011.
