Name: Receive report and provide policy direction on proposed placement of a resin mold, “The Art of the US Open”, by Richard MacDonald, in Devendorf Park, June 11-21, 2010.

Description: Dawson Cole Fine Arts-Richard MacDonald Gallery has requested the City allow a white, hollow resin mold sculpture, crafted by the artist, in Devendorf Park during the US Open Golf tournament in Pebble Beach, from June 11-21, 2010. The mold statue, entitled “Art of the US Open”, measures 12 feet high, has an eight-foot by four-foot base, and weighs about 350 pounds, and depicts a golfer swinging a club.

Staff Recommendation: Allow the placement of Richard MacDonald’s resin mold statue, during the 2010 US Open, from June 11-21, 2010 in Devendorf Park.

Important Considerations: The US Open in Pebble Beach draws thousands of golf enthusiasts and visitors to the City from around the world. Placement of this resin mold statue in Devendorf Park would provide a fun and memorable photo opportunity.

Decision Record: At its meeting of May 11, 2010, the Community Activities and Cultural Commission recommended approval of allowing the resin statue to be in Devendorf Park during the period requested.
