Name: Consideration of a Resolution approving a Public Works Dodge pickup truck as surplus and authorizing its sale.

Description: The Public Works Superintendent's truck, a 2000 Dodge Ram pickup, has primarily been used by the Public Works Superintendent for inspections. Age, normal wear and tear, and several recent mechanical problems have made this vehicle unreliable. The Public Works Department has purchased a new Ford pickup truck in Fiscal Year 2012/2013 to replace the 2000 Dodge Ram Pickup, so it may now be declared surplus and sold. Proceeds from any sale will be deposited in General Fund Account 01-46801-0003 .

Staff Recommendation: Staff recommends approval of this Resolution.

Important Considerations: The Public Works Department's aging 2000 Dodge Ram pickup truck has had several recent mechanical failures that undermine its efficiency and safety. The approval of City Council is required to dispose or sell surplus equipment with a value of $1,000 or more.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARMEL-BY-THE-SEA APPROVING A PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT DODGE RAM PICKUP TRUCK TO BE SURPLUS AND AUTHORIZING ITS SALE

WHEREAS, the Public Works Superintendent’s truck, a 2000 Dodge Ram pickup, located at the Public Works Department, is no longer useful to the City by virtue of its age and condition; and

WHEREAS, by virtue of its age and level of use, this vehicle has experienced mechanical failures which seriously undermine its efficiency level and safety; and

WHEREAS, the Public Works Department has purchased a new Ford pickup truck to replace this vehicle; and

WHEREAS, City Council approval is required to sell a vehicle valued at more than $1,000.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARMEL-BY-THE-SEA DOES:

1. Declare the 2000 Dodge Ram VIN# 3B7KC26ZXYM239873 pickup truck surplus.


2. Authorize the sale of the truck.
3. Authorize any sale proceeds to be deposited in General Fund Account 01-46801-0003.
