Name: Consideration of a Resolution approving the use of the Sunset Center Theater by the Carmel Public Library Foundation on May 9, 2013 for its Authors with Authors fundraising event.


Description: The Carmel Public Library Foundation is requesting one of the City's free use days for the Sunset Theater on May 9, 2013, for its Authors with Authors fundraising event. This event, which will feature a wine reception and book signing with noted authors, will benefit the Carmel Public Library Foundation.

Staff Recommendation: Adopt the Resolution.

Important Considerations: The mission of the Carmel Public Library Foundation is to provide funding for the Carmel Public Library.


Decision Record: The City receives five "free use" days at Sunset Center each fiscal year that Council may allocate to nonprofit organizations. This request is one of two that Council is considering at this meeting for FY 2012-2013. If this request and the one from the Carmel Foundation are both approved, there will be three more "free use" days remaining through June 30, 2013.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARMEL-BY-THE-SEA APPROVING THE USE OF THE SUNSET CENTER THEATER BY THE CARMEL PUBLIC LIBRARY FOUNDATION FOR ITS AUTHORS WITH AUTHORS EVENT ON MAY 9, 2013


WHEREAS, the City has free use days available for non-profit civic organizations that provide a public service to the Carmel community; and


WHEREAS, the Carmel Public Library Foundation is a non-profit organization which has requested one free use day on May 9, 2013; and


WHEREAS, the purpose of the free use day requested by the Carmel Public Library Foundation is for its annual Authors with Authors fundraising event.


NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARMEL-BY-THE-SEA DOES:


1. Approve one free use day of the Sunset Center Theater on May 9, 2013 as described in the Agreement between the City and the Sunset Center Cultural, Inc.

The Carmel Public Library Foundation respectfully requests consideration of our request to be
granted one of the City of Carmel's "free use days" at the Sunset Center Theater. We plan to hold
our second annual fundraising benefit, cflu.t~ wl.tA (/lu.t/a.otu, on May 9, 2013.

Set in the beautiful Sunset Center Theater, cflu.t~ wl.tA cflu.tla.otu, highlights national renowned
authors. Lovers of literature have an opportunity to meet the writers at a wine reception and book
signing preceding their presentation. Procee.ds from the evening will benefit the Carmel Public
Library Foundation whose mission is to fund the Carmel Public Library, to"l<..eep the doors open and io
maintain the library's preeminence as a steward and cherished culturaf ins~tution on the Central Coast
of California. Tickets to the program are $50, and include the wine reception and book signing.
